Starting Desktop Toys
Open your desktoys folder in whatever drive you have unzip'ed it to.
Open Dtoys.EXE - Enjoy!
Changing Settings
Desktop Toys defaults to certain settings according to the speed of your computer. To override the suggested settings, press [F].
To turn the sound on and off, press [S].
Choosing a Toy
To pick a toy, simply click it! Toys can also be selected using the keyboard:

Playing With a Toy
All toys can be controlled using hte mouse. Many toys use both mouse buttons. Some toys use the function keys to turn options on and off.
Cleaning Up
To restore your desktop to its original state, press [Back-space].
To undo changes the current toy has made, press [Delete].
You do not have to clean your desktop before exiting Desktop Toys. It's cleaned for you automatically.
Replaying the Madness
Desktop Toys automatically records actions. To watch an instant replay, press [Insert]. To rewind the recorder and start a new recording, press [-] (the minus key) on the numeric keypad (the right end of your keyboard).
Playing in the Background
To run desktop Toys in the background, start up the toy of your choice, put it into replay mode (see above), and then press [Alt+tab] to switch to another program. Desktop Toys continue sto run in the background. You may have to resize your program window (make sure it's not maximized) to see the action.
Putting Away the Toy
To temporarily return your screen to normal, press [Pause].
When your 'boss' leaves, press any key to return to the fun.
When you've finished with a toy, press [escape]. The toy menu appears. From there you may select another toy or, if you want to quit, press [Escape] again. Note that clicking in the extreme upper-left corner of the screen has the same effect as pressing [Escape].
To make a fast exit at any time, press [Alt+Tab].
Toy Stuff
While the toys are mostly self-explanatory, you may find a few things here that you wouldn't have otherwise noticed. Remember, there are lots of suprises hidden among the toys! never assume you've seen 'em all!
The Arsenal [1]
Destrioy those spreadsheet figures without going to the local armory. The machine gun, flamethrower and bazooka are all at your disposal.
Mouse Moves the gun.
Left button Fires thegun.
Right button Switches between guns.
[F1]-[f9] Turn options on and off.
Spacecruiser Attack [2]
Your hard drive is full again. Call in the aliens! Blast away with guns, missiles and bombs. Turn out the lights for the night raid action(WTF).
Mouse Control cursor.
Left button Fire guns.
Right button Activates thrusters.
[Spacebar] Drops bombs.
[Alternate] Launches missile.
[Control] Fires guns.
[Shift] Toggles target locking.
[Left Arrow] Rotates the Spacecrusier left.
[Right arrow] Rotates the Spacecrusier right.
[Up Arrow] Activates the thrusters.
[Down arrow] Activates retros.
[F1] - [F9] Turn options on and off.
Eraser Ed [3]
Crazy but hardworking, Eraser Ed is always ready to rub one out.
Mouse Moves Ed.
Left button Puts Rd to work.
Right Button Gives Ed a rest.
Pablo the Painter [4]
Recolor your desktop in bright primaries. Paint messages and graphics over your work.
Mouse Moves Pablo.
Left Button Paints with the current color.*
Right Button Switches Colors.
[F1] Turns Pablo's shadow on and off.
* When you start to run out of paint, let go of the button to get some more. Click the extreme upper-right corne of the desktop to fill the entire desktop.
Theodore Thumb [5]
Grinning all the time, Theodore Thumb laughs and jokes as he smudges and smears your desktop.
Mouse Moves Theodore.
Left button Hold down to smudge the desktop.
Right button Makes theodore kiss.
[F1] Turns Theodore'is' shadow on and off.
Desktop Splat [6]
Try to catch the myriad of objects dropping onto your screen. Bounce them higher and higher for a satisfying splat!
Mouse Moves the spring.
Left Button Drops an object.
Nid and Pid the Gravity Kids [7]
Nid and Pid stroll around your desktop, throwing little rubber balls that bounce off the sides of the monitor. The fun gets much heavier when they drop gravity machines.
Mouse Moves the cursor. (Either an N or a P.)
Right Button Makes Nid OR PId walk toward the cursor.
left Button Makes Nid or Pid throw a ball. The further way the cursor is, the harder the ball is thrown.
[Spacebar] Switches the cursor between N and P. When the cursor is an N, you are controlling Nid. When the cursor is a P, you are controlling Pid.
[F1] Puts down a gravity machine. If a gravity machine is near, it gets more powerful.
[F2] Puts down an anti-gravity machine. If an anti-gravity machine is near, it gets more powerful.
[F3] Removes all gravity machines.
[F4] Removes all balls.
[F5] Turns ball trails on and off.
Foton the Desktop Hero [8]
Out of the screen phospor comes Windows' greatest legend, Foton the Desktop Hero.
Mouse Moves the cursor.
Left button Click to make Desktop hero fly to the cursor. Quickly drag the mouse with the left button down to make Desktop hero Follow the cursor.
Right Button Click near Desktop hero to make him punch. Click away from Desktop hero to make him blast.
The Toolbox [9]
Hammering out fustrating document? Try your trusty hammer. The saw gives new meaning to cut and paste! (HOW DOES THAT MAKE SENSE? GOD WTF?)
Mouse Moves the tool.
Left Button Activates the tool.
Middle Button You're a tool.
Right Button Switches between the hammer and Saw.
